These savings clocks (Pendule epargne) were offered to the customers of banks and building societies to encourage them to save. This one is C1930s.
This excellent example boasts an automatic day/date calender and strikes on the hour and half hour. Unless french francs of a certain denomination were placed in the slot at regular intervals the clock stopped. This mechanism has been removed (but will be supplied to the buyer) on the basis that the owner will not have an endless supply of 70 year old French coinage at hand and will want a clock that is not constantly interrupted.
This is quite a large mantel clock measuring 32 cm high and 38 cm base width. The case is in excellent condition with (save for a tiny bit of woodworm (treated) inside and at the rear - it is not visible).
The clock keeps good time and the striking and date features work.
